These clients are a professional couple who wanted to update their space to reflect them and the environment they live in. And their brief was to have a functional kitchen design that is beautiful with clean finishes and lots of additional storage.
The renovation began with space planning to create a more functional workspace for two people in the kitchen and ample storage. We were also given the sea green Fenix colour swatch as a jumping off point, and this drove the colour scheme and the timber detailing. Though the Neolith ‘Calcatta’ benchtop and splashback do steal the show ;) The clients are entertainers and have an extensive booze collection, so we designed cabinetry and wine storage on the living room side of the penninsula bench. Overhead cabinetry allows access to glassware from this side and is a beautiful feature in it’s own right, with fluted glass and black powder-coated steel with LED lighting integrated.
In the dining space we’ve added more storage and a long bench seat spanning the width of the room. This creates an eye line leading out to the ocean and connects to other dark walnut custom cabinetry throughout the apartment. The bench seat also houses drawers along its length. A ‘Palliser’ dining table was chosen to allow the table to be pushed close to the wall and create more space in the apartment when needed. And the ‘Strand’ pendant light sits proud and in line with your walk down the hallway from the bedrooms.
In the bedrooms we re-designed the wardrobes to gain greater storage capacity (there was originally nowhere to store suitcases and winter clothes and the like) and an update of the finishes. We’ve added more hanging space, and pull-out shoe storage - what every modern wardrobe should have.
Selected furniture and furnishings were carefully curated to fit within the small apartment space, for comfort and also to allow flexibility. Cuddling the sofa is a custom unit that doubles as a display space and a spot to put down your glass, with bonus additional storage cupboards behind the sofa. And who wouldn’t want to cuddle on this couch and stare at that view!
